Thomas Kala

Thomas Kala (85) who was Indian in origin but British in spirit, passed away today. His health was gradually declining.

After his early education in India, Thomas left for UK to work in publishing companies. He worked there in a publishing companies like Penguin, for four decades. During this course of time, he published multiple works related to philosophy, literature, art, and travel. He was a great source of inspiration for me.

Even though he assimilated a British way of life, he kept his love for India alive deep within. He wrote a novel titled Akshi And Meena which reflected his deeper insights into Indian aesthetics and love.

(The author with Thomas Kala at  Christ Hall Jesuit House, Calicut)

Thomas returned to India after three decades long service at UK. He had been spending his retired life in a remote village in Trichur district of Kerala.

Thomas Kala was very cordial in his relationship with everyone around him. He respected everyone and his humility and care for others, won hearts.
